Welcome to USC Price on the Rhine!
A Message from the Program Director (Dr. William Resh)
Welcome to the informal, but informative, website for USC's "Price on the Rhine" study abroad program!
This site offers information about the program and its host city and country. The program focuses on governance issues taught from the comparative perspective, with a special focus on the United States, Germany, and the European Union. As you will find in the course schedule, the program includes various excursions to cultural, political, and socio-economic sites of interest, including the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France and several EU institutions in Brussels, Belgium; the European Central Bank in Frankfurt; and the historic city of Heidelberg, Germany.
I will try to update this site with new information whenever possible, including orientation and travel information for students after their registration to the program. At any time, feel free to contact me via email with questions ([email protected]).
The program is hosted by Speyer University, and the courses are taught by instructors from both the US and Germany. American students are fully immersed in Speyer University's curricular offerings, working and living side-by-side and in groups with other European and American students. We try to match each American student with a European roommate for the dorms as to achieve true cultural integration. Moreover, the excursions to EU institutions and Berlin include "face time" with administrators, officials, and parliamentarians of these respective institutions.
All courses are taught in English.
Students (both advanced Undergrad and Masters) who complete the course earn 6 units. The course number is PPDE-589: "Public Policy and Administration in the European Union, Germany, and the United States"
Undergrads will have to petition for the course. This should NOT be a barrier to you. It's simply an additional procedural hurdle. We WELCOME serious applicants from both advanced-undergraduate and graduate levels!
So, you really have no excuse! Come join us in 2023!
